The premise of the lemon detox diet is that digesting solid food drains the body of energy which could better channeled into cleansing the body of toxins.
The lemon detox diet involves drinking a liquid made up of a mixture of specific quantities of maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne pepper throughout the day, to allow your body the calorific intake it requires to function correctly, without ingesting food.

The lemon detox diet should be followed for anywhere between 10 days and 40 days, depending on the results you want to achieve and the levels of toxins in your body that need to be flushed out. It is recommended that if you are following the master cleanse for the first time, seven days is sufficient to rid the body of toxins. However, a repeat cleanse can be carried out a short time later.
The lemon detox diet should be followed in combination with normal everyday life. Most people who follow the lemon detox diet report high energy levels, however excess stress, both physical and mental, should be avoided for the master cleanse to be effective.

When you come to the end of your master cleanse, you must slowly introduce food into your diet, to prevent a shock to your digestive system. Bear in mind it has been inactive throughout the whole time you have been following the lemon detox. Avoid eating too much too soon after completing the lemon detox, and try to return to healthy eating gradually.

Freshly squeezed fruit juices and pureed vegetables are a good way to ease food into your diet, while maintaining a healthy calorie intake. Steamed vegetables can be introduced after the third or fourth day. On the fifth day of completing the master cleanse you can return to your normal eating habits again.
